Huckjive is an online magazine that showcases indie music, indie films, art, skate, and surf. Why that combination? Well, because each one of those activities is all about independence and individual expression.
What’s up with the name? So…”huck” means the following:
1) A term generally used in extreme sports referring to a large jump, often without knowledge or regard for the risk or consequences.
2) The term can also be applied to risk assesment in everyday life, taking actions regardless of the risk or consequences. (A strengthening of resolve, as opposed to giving up)
1) “He hucked the jump over on the north corner, not even knowing about the gravel pit below”
2) “This may not be my best decision, but huck it, I’m going to try anyway”
Also, Huck Finn is one of the greatest characters in American literature. His resolve to live his life the way he wants by his own rules put him at odds against the moral conscious of the day. Yet, ironically, through his own rebellion, he achieved a form of morality higher than those who wished to confine him. He embodies the concept of individuality, independence, and freedom of expression.
